Professor Alegria

Leandro Santos da Silva (Alegria) was born in Salvador, Bahia, in Brazil and began his capoeira training with Mestre Jelon Vieira in 1995. Since then, Alegria has attained the level of professor (2009) and has demonstrated and taught capoeira throughout Brazil, the United States and Europe.
An accomplished, professionally trained dancer of various styles, Alegria has toured the world for several years as a member of the highly acclaimed Dance Brazil dance company. Also, Alegria has been part of several other international companies such as Brazarte Dance Company (Miami-FL), Cleo Parker Robinson Dance (Denver-CO), Orquestra Popular da Bahia (Brazil), and Ballethnic Dance Company (Atlanta-GA).
For the past several years, Leandro has been developing his own style of dance, where he mixes Capoeira with modern dance and Contemporary Dance. He has also participated as director and choreographer of National Black Arts Festival (Atl-GA), choreographer assistant of So You Think You Can Dance (Canada) and performed in the Houston Brazilian Festival (Hou-TX).
Alegria currently works for the Brazilian Cultural Arts Exchange.
Janete Silva

Janete Silva has studied dance since childhood and has performed with various local and international companies such as Dance Brazil (NY), Bale Folclórico da Bahia (Brazil), Bahia Brazil (Los Angeles), Orquestra Popular da Bahia (Brasil), Freddiek Bratcher and Company (Miami).
She has studied Afro-Brazilian Dance, Ballet, Modern Dance and Silvestre Technique. Also, she has appeared as a dance on singer star Ivete Sangalo’s recent DVD.
Currently, Janete is a master dance teacher at Gotta Dance Atlanta, Ballethnic Dance Academy and Imzadi Urban Dance. She has also participated in the Lowell Folk Festival (Lowell) and National Black Arts Festival (Atl, GA), plus dance performed in the Brazilian Independence Day Celebration (Atl, GA), and the Houston Brazilian Festival.
Janete currently works for the Brazilian Cultural Arts Exchange.
